Fairness is an idea that people argue about, and huge differences exist.

Today in class we looked at families from different countries around the world and their income . We were given pictures to examine, and we saw that not all of the families have enough money to feed themselves. Some families have only 4-5 people in the family and they have so much of food, so much that at least 8-10 people could eat off. Families of 6-8 have so less food only 1 or 2 people can eat, just for one meal. The reason we did this activity was so that we all could have the understanding of disparity and equity. It's not that developed countries like the U.S.A are not going through poverty, right now many countries are living in a state of poverty.

The Heaven Shop - Debra Ellis

In our Global Issues class, we are reading a book called The Heaven Shop by Debra Ellis. This book is about a girl named Binti who works for a radio show in Malawi, one of the countries in Africa, about how HIV/AIDS is spreading in their country really quickly, by using characters to catch the attention of the listeners and to be aware of this problem. Her parents died of HIV/AIDS, her dad was a coffin maker. I think this book is very interesting and is sending out a very important message through characters, like Binti's radio show.

I think this book is somewhat tied to Global Issues because the book has to do with denial, disparity, death, discontent, and disaster. This is something the world is going through, and most importantly, denial. People are burying their heads in the sand and aren't taking a stand for the world, to help it stop.

There were a lot of things I didn't know before I read this book, like I didn't know a place like Malawi ever existed, imagine how the world is neglecting this one country that earns its importance. After all, we only have one world...
